Steve Davis turned a childhood passion for soccer into a diverse career in the game, now bringing more than 30 years experience in media, coaching and nonprofit work.
Davis’ career includes roles as a national soccer writer for ESPN.com, SI.com, NBC ProSoccerTalk and others. He was lead analyst for FC Dallas local TV broadcasts for five years and continues to serve as lead analyst for FC Dallas radio broadcasts. Previously, Davis worked as a Senior Sportswriter for The Dallas Morning News, specializing in soccer and college sports.
Through media assignments, Davis has reported on seven FIFA Men’s World Cups and three FIFA Women’s World Cups from four continents. Across multiple platforms (writing, broadcasting, podcasting, etc.) he covered operations, security and infrastructure as well as on-field competition.
As a competitive-level, U.S. Soccer licensed coach and private training instructor, Davis’ coaching philosophy is: “Teach at a high level, but in ways that kids will love and play the game when they are 50 years old!”
Davis’ career also includes contract work in public relations and event management.
Having grown up playing soccer in Pleasant Grove (Southeast Dallas), Davis understands the challenges young athletes from underserved communities encounter in facility and program accessibility. Today he leads efforts to fill these gaps through low-cost camps, clinics, and other programming through a nonprofit he founded, Pleasant Grove Soccer & Sports. The organization creates opportunities and experiences for young players from low-income families and underserved communities, striving to grow a greater love for the game on and off the field.
